SMITH, School Board of Center Harbor.

The School Board has been somewhat hampered the past year by the resignation of one member.

Dr. Morrill, feeling that he could not give the proper amount of time that he ought, resigned in the spring, and Rev. John Thorpe was appointed to fill the vacancy.

Mr. Thorpe made a most efficient and energetic member, but near the end of the year, he having closed his pastorate here, we were again obliged to give up a member.

We feel, however, that we have improved the standing of the schools by having more experienced and therefore more expensive teachers.

We wish again this year to plead for co-operation of the parents by their frequent presence in the school room, believ- ing this the surest way to do good work and promote confi- dence and good will between all concerned.

The primary grade was-again taught by Miss Myrtie L. Bickford, whose efficient work in the past makes it unnecessary to say more than that she kept up her usual high standard. The third term was taught by Miss Annie F. Glidden, who has taught very acceptably in our ungraded schools and gives pro- mise of first grade primary work. :

The grammar grade was taught in the spring by Miss Dora A. Libbey of Portland, Me. Miss Libbey was progressive in her methods and stimulated t_e pupils in efforts to make the highest standard in their studies. As she was unable to return as we expected, Mrs. Jessie Worthen was engaged and proved a theroughly efficient teacher. Illness among the pupils neces- sitated the closing of both grades a week earlier than was _ in- tended.

The Town House school was taught the first two terms by Miss Annie Glidden, and the winter term by Miss Cora M. Berry. Miss Berry did excellent work and gaye mneh thought and time to her duties.

Though this was her first school, the pupils made fine pro- goress.

The school for the entire year in the Cram district was

44

taught by Mrs. Mary Cram Lovett, a teacher of marked abili- ty and much experience. The pupils were thoroughly trained in mental work in this school, this being a great help in their term work.

The Hawkins school was taught by Miss Lois K. Haskell of Orange, Mass. We believe Miss Haskell to be a conscien- tious teacher and she worked for the advancement of her pu- pils. Non-attendance proved a great hindrance to her work.
